Lawndale Art Center’s: Dia del los Muertos – Houston

After one the most common parades known as Halloween, filled creepy, naughty, and basically anything awesome you can imagine people wearing, we welcome the mysterious celebration of Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), from October 31st to November 2nd . Dia de los Muertos originated in Mexico and it’s a perfect time to come together with family and honor the dead, no tears allowed! During this amazing celebration of the perfect combination of both Aztec and Catholic rituals, you celebrate the life of the dead with food, drink and lots of partying, it is frowned upon to mourn! If you haven’t witness this wonderful festivity, you can always find videos or google information on it. Although is not commonly known everywhere, Texas is big on Dia de los Muertos and believe it or not is widely celebrated all over our great state. That brings me to the next thing: after going through my junk mail, you know how that goes, I discovered this beauty, an invitation to Lawndale Art Center’s Dia de los Muertos’ Retablo Exhibition & Silent Auction! I just had to make it a point to go today. A couple days late, I know, I know! But what I saw today was totally worth the trip to crazy Midtown! The breath-taking paintings and soul that was put in the work that surrounded me today gave me chills and inspired this post. You will be able to enjoy everything that melted my heart this morning, and don’t you worry, but I got some great news! Tomorrow, Saturday, November 4th, will be the last chance for you be a part of it, but the best part is, IT IS TOTALLY FREE! They will be hosting a Family Day Fiesta and there will be hands-on art workshops for the families, a Mixteco Ballet Folklorico performance by children and plenty more! If you get the chance to assist, please use the hashtag #AGOBbroughtmehere so I can bring to you many more of these events on my blog! Stay tuned for all the amazing photos, evidence of all the fun this weekend! As always, an honor to assist you, merry meet, merry part and merry meet again! Hugs!
